First Line Friday…..

Recently I have been scrolling through WordPress bookish posts and a few memes have popped up and this is one of the ones that caught my eye. So here I am.

First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book worms hosted by WanderingWords.

What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its hype, we judged it by its opening lines?

Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page

Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first

Finally… reveal the book!

Sometimes in life the unthinkable happens. We can find ourselves in terrible situations where we feel there’s no way out. Where life has thrown us a curve ball, tossing everything to chaos. You might have found out your partner is cheating. Or been dumped, out of the blue. Lost your job. Lost a family member. Or even just feel as though you’ve lost your mind after suffering terrible stress.

Things Get Better by Katie Piper

Blurb: Katie Piper knows just what it’s like to pull yourself up from rock bottom, and her recovery from a rape and acid attack is nothing short of astonishing. She has become a role model for positive thinking and has received countless letters and emails from people just like you who are going through everything from break-ups, eating disorders, job loss and coming out, to recovery from issues such as violence, disfigurement or abuse.

In Things Get Better, Katie revists each stage of her own recovery and shows that you are not alone in your feelings. She explains how to take things one day at a time to find happiness and contentment, and reveals how to stay positive and treat yourself with the kindness you deserve.

Katie is determined to show that there is a way forward through your darkest times, and it all starts with you.

I have had Katie’s 365 Affirmations book for a few years now and I still love delving into this but I have wanted more actual reading. I’m looking into listening to Confidence the secret via audible but when this little beauty came through the doors at my work I just couldn’t resist. In typing those first lines I’m excited to read this beauty. I can definitely see it moving up the list.

So would the first lines, the cover or the blurb catch your eye? Please do let me know your thoughts on this entry.
